2024 was a big year for the Community Crops program at Family Service Lincoln! There is so much celebrate and we are preparing for another year of growing healthy foods and community. Take a look and help us grow in 2025!

What you helped accomplish in 2024:

Supporting Growers:

187 Gardeners (565 family members) in ten community gardens
12 Beginning Farmers across our three farm sites
$63,000 in cultural produce donated to Good Neighbor Center's food distribution
12 growers able to access greenhouse space and 1,800 plants given away to community gardeners

Building Community and Education:

119 people attending 23 free classes
Over 200 people at our annual seed swap
Over 560 people building community at our annual community events, Feast on the Farm and the Garden Party
Partnered with UNL and our farmers to grow knowledge and research on cover crops and cultural crop rotations
Continued SNAP and Double Up Food Bucks access for Hub Market and held market tours for 57 New American families

Build a 1/3 acre site Belmont neighborhood that combines gardening, farming, and perennial plants in new ways.

- Help us bring together new and returning growers to share seed, build community, and access resources they need to succeed.
Hub Farmers Market

About Community Crops

Community Crops was began with one community garden in 2003, and has grown over the years to 10 community garden sites, three training farms, two production greenhouses, free educational classes for all ages, and more.

About Family Service Lincoln: Family Service Lincoln was founded in 1891 as the first charitable organization in Lincoln, Nebraska. Programming has evolved over the years to meet the needs of families and the current conditions in our community. Today, we’re proud to provide case management, housing support, behavioral health therapy, expanded learning opportunities, and nutrition and food programs to thousands of households each year. Our mission of “Helping Families Thrive” embodies the impact we have across all six tracks of programming. Community Crops proudly joined Family Service Lincoln as their sixth division of programming in January 2023.
