What is a Donor Advised Fund?

A Donor Advised Fund (DAF) is a tax-advantaged charitable giving account. Anyone can open a DAF account at more than 1,000 providers across the country. Donations (also called "grants") from DAFs are made specifically to qualified charitable organizations.

Donors can contribute cash or non-cash assets, such as stock, to their DAF, which is then invested in the market by the DAF provider. Donors then recommend grants to 501(c)3 nonprofit organizations at any time.
