Landfill Tree Maintenance and Planting Event 10.17.2026

Join POP for a fun morning of planting new trees and maintaining the trees planted through our Trees4Trash initiative !! The trees from this initiative have mostly been planted at the New Hanover County Landfill and with over 2,500 trees now planted here, we have established what we call “Fran's Forest,” a 5.3 acre virgin forest located at the NHC landfill on two uncapped mounds.

We are encouraging volunteers to bring their own gardening tools (hedge trimmers, garden shears, rakes, etc.) if they have them! Volunteers are required to wear pants, close toe shoes and encouraged to bring a reusable water bottle.

Come out and volunteer! Can't attend? Consider making a donation instead!

Where: New Hanover County Landfill (5210 US-421, Wilmington, NC 28402)

When: October 17th, 9am to 12pm

Please follow the map for parking and volunteer meeting location! When entering the Landfill, please enter the far right lane and do NOT go over the scale. You can then continue on the path to the tree location.

Notice: Notice: Any volunteer under the age of 18 MUST have a waiver signed by a parent/legal guardian. Volunteers under the age of 16 are REQUIRED to be accompanied by a legal guardian.

Plastic Ocean Project's Activity Waiver and Liability Release Form. You will be prompted during the sign up to digitally sign the waiver.

**A hard copy of the Liability waiver is required to be signed in person before participating in the cleanup
