This is for Us and Our Community

Saturday, March 8th, 12:30 PM – 4:00 PM EST

In Person

March 8th we will host our annual day of remembrance. This is for Christina, Michelle, Guiying, Zinat, Jaahnavi, Win, Nyah, Victoria, Wadea, Hind and all Palestinian martyrs and all victims of anti Asian racism and Islamophobia. We chose the anniversary of Christina Yuna Lee’s passing because her story struck a chord with so many in our community, and this incident ultimately birthed Angry Asian Womxn. We hold a day of healing only for women, femmes and gender expansive folks who are affected by anti-Asian racism and Islamophobia. Come and be with community. $10 ticket includes: Savanh Wellness CBD gummies, Sichuan Chili Crisp from Fly By Jing, free self defense tool, subway safety guide, N-95, box of 2 COVID tests, bag of gojuchang puppy chow, indomie noodles, ginger tea, a Valentine’s gift, and a copy of our amazing zine “Angry Asian Feminists Unite!” for free! Our zine retails for $25-$35 online! If you don’t have $10 and you are committed to attending, please send a message: [email protected] Special discount code: “transluv” for our trans family Muslim friends! We won’t be eating or drinking at the event and all food will be packaged “to go!” Thanks to sponsor Subtle Asian Baking! 1pm Doors open! Please don’t come before this time, we most likely will still be setting up! Use this time to visit the craft table for stickers, jewelry making, water color and origami. 1:30pm AAW town hall. Rant about the collapse of capitalism and U.S. government. Fears about ICE? Palestine? There’s so much to talk about. How can we respond to these concerns together as AAW? 2:30pm Beginner’s self defense. Monica Liu @astrangeday will be teaching you the basics of self defense! No prior experience necessary and all bodies are welcome! Come learn about situational awareness, using your voice, self defense tool familiarization, the best way to escape, basic footwork and striking. Learn or brush up in a safe and supportive environment! 3:30pm Trauma informed chair yoga with Helen Ho. This form of yoga is one of the most accessible! Helen Ho (she/they) is the founder of Queens Perennial, a flower CSA in NYC. She’s also a budding entrepreneur, yoga and reiki teacher. If you have a question about your life, ask them about tarot card readings! Event is happening on two floors at our host Immigrant Social Services (ISS). There is no pressure to attend all workshops! You can use the ground floor to continue to make crafts and hang out. *** To be as inclusive as possible, this event is mandatory masking for the entire event and a negative COVID-19 test is required before entering. We will provide both for free. If you need to be tested before, please try and arrive at least 15 minutes earlier to account for testing time. Please wear N-95/KN-95 quality mask or higher (surgical or cloth masks are not acceptable). If you have access to a PCR, Pluslife, or rapid covid test day of, please bring a photo of your negative result for a gift at the door! *** COVID test guide: https://www.ontariohealth.ca/sites/ontariohealth/files/2022-02/COVID-19RapidAntigenTests-HowtoCollectaSample.pdf Because of testing, we are enacting staggered entry to the event. Please pick the time that best fits your needs and stay as long as you’d like! Because there are limited spots, please be mindful of reserving a ticket if you’re unsure of attending. ISS Henry Street location is on the ground floor and one level up with ADA compliant elevator and ADA compliant bathroom. Event space has HVAC and air purifiers. All food given out will be vegan and halal. We are grateful to partner with ISS, an immigrant social service organization that has served immigrants and children of immigrants in the LES and Chinatown since 1972. In these times we need places like ISS more than ever. We will have ICE know your rights information available at this event as well.
