Ophelia's Place is a 501c(3) nonprofit providing support, connection to life-saving treatment and harm reduction resources to anyone struggling with eating disorders.

We are a safe first step, supporting people at every stage of their eating disorder to find mental health resources that improve quality of life, and set them up for recovery that can be sustained long-term.

Imagine hitting the lowest and most painful point in your life...

You're sick, and you feel alone, confused, afraid, ashamed. You know you need help and support, but you're not sure where to turn. You are fearful of what might happen if you don't get help, but also afriad of making change and what lies ahead if you do decide to seek recovery. You're overwhelmed thinking about how you'll pay for treatment or what treatment might be like, and worried about how seeking help might disrupt your day-to-day life.

When someone is struggling with an eating disorder, these are just some of the barriers that keep them from seeking help.

We aim to break down those barriers by providing an accessible and inclusive approach to eating disorder recovery in a model that is centered in community, free of charge, and challenges the status quo of how its always been done. We do this through:

All of our support services are free of charge, which is made possible only with continued support from community members like you.

Donor contributions are a critical piece of maintaining our mission, because we are not reliant on the community we serve to financially support us through paid treatment services. Yet we know through testimony and daily feedback that our services provide critical care and next steps for individuals and families who have no where else to turn.

Your gift directly supports those in recovery by:

Giving people the tools to shift from self-harm behaviors into more sustainable coping skills
Mitigating panic and reactivity in moments of crisis, offering guidance and support to get connected to the right kinds of care
Decreasing the amount diet talk and negative body talk within families, work spaces and peer circles– creating more safety, deeper conversations, and stronger relationships
Lowering the risk of suicide by teaching skills for moving through pain with more support, compassion and resources
Increasing our collective sense of belongingness, by building resiliency to body-shaming messages. When we feel that we belong, we're less likely to turn towards disordered eating to try and "fit in"
Empowering people to move their bodies in ways that feel joyful and nurturing, rather than punishing, compensating and injuring themselves; movement is healing!!
Freeing up the mental space to stop thinking so much about food, exercise and bodies, in order to engage in the things that actually bring joy and fulfillment
Reducing the financial debt load the mental health community experiences due to inpatient treatment, and out of pocket costs for therapy and nutritional/ medical rehabilitation
Reducing stress, anxiety and depression by holding space for people to heal the wounds at the roots of these conditions
