🐝 Great American Hive Ride

3,900 Miles. 14 States. One Mission: Healing Through Beekeeping

At Hives for Heroes, we’re proud to support our nation’s Veterans and First Responders through beekeeping, mentorship, and community. This spring, we’re honored to cheer on two incredible supporters—Janice and Terry Eddington—as they take on a bold challenge with a heart for healing.

On May 28th, Janice and Terry are hitting the road—literally. They’ll be riding their bikes across the United States: 3,900+ miles over 80+ days through 14 states.

Their goal?
To turn every mile they ride into support for Veterans and First Responders across the country through Hives for Heroes. 🐝

💛 How You Can Support

Janice and Terry are inviting you to be part of their journey by supporting a cause they’ve grown to love.

They’re asking for just a penny per mile—$39—to support Veterans and First Responders across the nation through beekeeping, mentorship, and community.
Every donation goes directly to Hives for Heroes and helps build purpose-driven connections and healing opportunities for those who’ve served.

Any amount is welcome. Every dollar makes a difference. Let’s give back to those who’ve given so much.

📍 Follow Along & Say Hello

They’d love to meet you along the way! If you live near their route, you’re invited to join them for a few miles—or simply follow along online.

Meet the Riders!

"Hello! We're the Eddingtons—Janice and Terry.
We're going to ride our bikes across the United States. We're not the most unlikely candidates to complete such a big ride, but we're not the most obvious either.

🚲 Five years ago, my husband said, “Let’s get bikes.”
I said, “No thank you. I don’t like to ride bikes.”

Neither of us had ridden a bike in over 40 years.

But what if we tried an electric bike? Maybe?

So we went down to a local bike shop and they allowed us to do a 15-mile ride. About 5 miles in I said, “This is fun! I’m getting an e-bike!”
(Terry remembers it being maybe 2 blocks! 😄)

Less than 12 hours later, I had my new bike ordered, and Terry’s followed shortly after.
While I was waiting for my e-bike to arrive, all I could do was plan. I read about people doing 10- or 15-mile rides, then 20, then 50... and even rides across the country!
Every night, I went to bed dreaming of bicycle rides we could do. 🌙

We started with a 3-day ride in the San Juan Islands and the Olympic Peninsula Trail. Then we tested ourselves with the Ohio to Erie Trail—768 miles from Cincinnati to Cleveland and back. It took 12 days, and it sparked something big in both of us.

When I first mentioned riding across the country, Terry wasn’t completely on board. But he eventually warmed up to the idea. And now, it’s time:

✨ Time for the big ride across the United States.

🐝 So where does Hives for Heroes come in?

A little over a year ago, a friend asked if I wanted to be a beekeeper. I said yes.
We started with four hives—now we have twelve.
At the Texas Beekeepers Association convention in Austin, I learned about Hives for Heroes. And it just felt right to turn this ride into something bigger than us.

We have heroes in our family—my father, my two older brothers, our brother-in-law, my nephew, and others we hold dear.
This ride is for them.
It’s for every Hero waiting for a hive, a mission, and a chance to heal.

🗺️ Starting May 28, we’ll ride through 14 states, covering 3,900+ miles in over 80 days.
If you live near the route, come join us!
And if you can, donate to Hives for Heroes—even a penny a mile. That’s just $39, and it means everything.

We hope you come along for the ride."
