About TURNmusic

Founded in 2014 by Anne Decker, TURNmusic's mission is to serve as a hub for New Music while supporting equity among music creators, fostering inclusive audiences, and contributing to the cultural vibrancy of Central Vermont.

Some music creators are spending their lives creating music that may never be heard - TURNmusic now provides a space at The Phoenix to remedy this. TURNmusic is creating opportunities to experience new music by living music creators and celebrate their craft. During our 2023-2024 season we presented 25 events in downtown Waterbury.

For the last decade we've been producing the Music in the Alley summertime outdoor concert series. Thank you to our sponsor, The Blackback Pub. This event is accessible to all, free, and all are welcome.

Through our TURNcares program, we are supporting the livelihoods of artists that create new music for our community with an agreed, guaranteed fee. Over 50% of the music writers we featured in the 2023-2024 season are part of historically underrepresented groups.

Our TURNyouth programs include Open Stage, a project at The Phoenix in Waterbury. We host 4 events per year for students from Central Vermont, providing our youngest artists the chance to share their music compositions, poetry, prose, and artwork, with their peers. Opportunities to present work to their peers are fundamental to the development of the young creator. Youth are also given the opportunity to curate and run production for these events. We are providing mentorship and giving real life performance experience in a public music venue. Through TURNyouth we also offer free youth tickets to our mainstage concerts in Waterbury.
