Daniel is a bright, curious, and adventurous 6-year-old who lights up when he’s outside, exploring the world around him. He lives in Delaware with his mom, dad, twin brother, and big brother, and though he’s minimally verbal and autistic, Daniel has an extraordinary way of showing us what brings him joy. His determination, creativity, and spirit shine through in every moment.

Daniel and his twin were born 8 weeks early after a high-risk pregnancy that kept Mom in the hospital for 6 weeks. Both boys spent two months in the NICU, and Daniel faced additional challenges—feeding difficulties and concerns about brain bleeds. Even then, his resilience was unmistakable.

Because of his prematurity, Daniel has mild cerebral palsy. His leg muscles tighten painfully after activity, and he’s prone to eloping—running off suddenly without recognizing danger. That means outdoor play often requires him to be tethered to a parent via a backpack harness, limiting his freedom.

But Daniel never gives up. Since he was 6 months old, he’s worked hard in physical, occupational, and speech therapy, growing into a strong, determined little boy. Recently, during an intensive three-week therapy program at the NAPA Center in Boston, Daniel discovered something that changed everything: an adaptive bike.

This bike—sized just right, with supportive straps and pedals—gave Daniel his first taste of independent movement. For the first time, he could ride safely and freely, without fear of falling or running off. His joy was immediate and unforgettable.

Every day at therapy, Daniel asked for the bike. Now that we’re home, he continues to seek it out—watching bike videos, playing bike-themed games, and pointing to the one at his therapy center. He’s telling us, in his own way, that he’s ready to ride.

Having his own adaptive bike would mean the world to Daniel—and to our family. It would allow him to:

Unfortunately, adaptive bikes like Daniel’s are prohibitively expensive and not covered by insurance. We’re partnering with The Federation. They help families like ours make these dreams possible—but we need your help.
