Young people, more than any other age group, are disproportionately experiencing the mental health impacts of the climate crisis, including anxiety, depression, and despair. In the US, 68% of Gen Zers said that climate change impacts their mental health. Worldwide, 75% of young people said the future is frightening because of the climate crisis, and 4 in 10 said they do not want to have children.

We seek to raise $1,000 to create a social media campaign to destigmatize this issue, provide solutions-oriented information and stories to people, and promote a culture of active hope and resilience rather than dooms scrolling on social media that encourages meaningful offline connections and actions to address the climate crisis. Research shows that the loneliness epidemic in the US contributes to people’s negative climate emotions and healthy social media content that encourages offline engagement is an important antidote to address it.

$1000 in funding would allow us to:

Host 3 Instagram Live conversations with Gen Zers and leading experts, writers, and activists in the climate-mental health sector
Create 7 robust Instagram posts in collaboration with partners (nonprofits, brands, individuals) focused on destigmatizing climate emotions and providing resources to people to foster emotional well-being and self-care while also taking meaningful climate action.

Expected Outcomes of the Campaign:

Create online engagement and community for young people that fosters healthy media content consumption, encourages them to practice self-care and to take climate action in community offline.
Normalize climate emotions through representation and storytelling on our social media.
Generate more awareness about CMHN’s free bi-lingual resources, programs, and events.
