The Problem: Every school does not have a budget to provide effective professional development for principals, which can lead to burnout and high turnover. (1) Research is clear that teachers are the greatest factor for student success and principals are the greatest factor of teacher success.(2) Professional development and communities of support for principals are key levers for their retention and student success.

The Solution: Through The Antiracist Collective, Lead Liberated convenes early-career principals of color, their supervisors, and their Instructional Leadership teams for collective learning over the course of two years to provide support and accountability through 1:1 coaching and cohort based professional development.

The Antiracist Collective provides three specific supports to principals of color:

A space for principals of color to safely explore the impact of internalized racism in their personal leadership;
Coaching and peer support to engage in their own healing;
Instructional leadership development for principals and their teams to ensure learning outcomes (for students and teachers) are aligned to the demands of the Common Core standards.

ABOUT LEAD LIBERATED

Lead Liberated is located in Oakland, CA on Ohlone land. We provide professional development for education leaders to interrupt racism within themselves, their collective practices, and their organizations to co-design antiracist learning cultures where students, teachers, and leaders can thrive. While our program centers principals of color, it also includes their Instructional Leadership Teams - which has led to shifts in lead teacher engagement as they facilitate their professional learning communities in ways that promote student learning.
