5/23/2022 UPDATE: NATIONAL ULTIMATE TRAINING CAMP SCHOLARSHIP FUNDRAISER!

Portland Rising, Maine Ultimate, and NUTC are pooling funds to send a girls'-division Maine athlete to NUTC this summer! We are trying to raise $1,500 (to reach a total of $22,139 on this page). 30% (up to $450) will go to this scholarship, and Maine Ultimate and NUTC are chipping in the rest. And it gets even better! A generous donor will match up to $1,500 in donations to Rising to help get us through the rest of this season.

What is NUTC?
The National Ultimate Training Camp (NUTC) is a one-week sleep away summer camp in South Hadley, MA that’s all about ultimate! It’s for athletes, ages 14-18. There are two sessions this summer: July 2nd - 7th (Session A) and July 9th - 14th (Session B). Check out www.nutc.net for more information.

Why go to NUTC?
Focusing on nothing but ultimate for a whole week will help you improve tremendously. NUTC coaches are top-level elite players and experienced teachers, dedicated to helping you become a mentally and physically stronger athlete. And… NUTC is FUN!!

Who should apply?
- You live in Maine
- You will be 14-18 years old this summer (NUTC is designed for high-school level players who have not played any college-division ultimate)
- You play in the girls' division (any girls, non-binary, trans, genderqueer, gender nonconforming, agender athletes who compete/play in the girls' division should apply)
- You would not be able to attend NUTC without financial assistance (full tuition is $890)

What does this scholarship cover?
Depending on need, we can cover up to $890 (the full cost of tuition). This includes housing and food for the whole week but does not include transportation to and from camp.

Who is Portland Rising?

Portland Rising is a professional ultimate team of women and non-binary athletes in the state of Maine. In 2021, we hosted games against New York Gridlock, Austin Torch, and Medellín Revolution that brought fans to Portland from all over the country. Portland Rising is redefining what a pro athlete looks like here in Maine by centering community connection and equity. Our athletes have volunteered as coaches for the Maine Ultimate middle school program, and through the Rising Development Program, our coaches and athletes hosted seven practices for Maine women’s division players. Our athletes also raised over $6,000 for organizations that are important to them through birthday fundraisers, completed a 15-week anti-oppression course, and participated in activism training.

What’s planned for this season?

2022 will be our first season with a full competition schedule. We will host games in Portland and travel around the country to compete against other Premier Ultimate League teams. We are growing our partnership with Maine Ultimate to work toward our shared goal of increasing youth participation in ultimate, particularly for underrepresented and girls-division athletes. Keep an eye out for community programming this spring and summer!

Why community fundraising?

We are a community-funded team, supported by local businesses, small grants, and community donations. Our future goal is to be fully funded by sponsorships, ticket/merchandise sales, and content like podcasts and documentaries. Our first two years existing in a pandemic without playing a full season has made it tough to get our feet of the ground. We still need a full season to expand our visibility by playing in more games and growing our fan base within and beyond the ultimate community. For this season, we need help covering costs of field space ($10,000), travel ($20,000), coaching staff, and training resources.
