The Gap No One Talks About

Getting into medical school takes more than brains and heart. It takes money.

MCAT prep courses cost up to $3,000. Primary applications run $175 for the first school and $47 for each one after that. Secondary applications add $100 or more per school. Then come interview flights, hotels, professional attire, and the laptop that has to survive four years of studying.

For students from underserved communities, these costs are not inconveniences. They are dealbreakers. Talented, driven, fully capable future physicians walk away from medicine every year, not because they can't do the work, but because they can't afford the process.

The Rising Doctors Fund exists to make sure money is never the reason a future doctor gives up.

Rising Doctors supports students at the most fragile stretch of the physician pipeline: college premeds, post-grads preparing to apply, and current medical students. Your donation provides direct support for:

MCAT and test prep courses and materials
Medical school application and secondary application fees
Interview travel and lodging
Computer equipment and required software

Scholarships through our proven Medical Pathway Program
Emergency food and living expenses when life threatens to derail the dream

Why Mentoring in Medicine

For nearly 25 years, Mentoring in Medicine has been transforming lives on a limited budget. We've helped 580 students from underserved communities become doctors. 92% of our students who apply to medical school get accepted, many of them told at some point along the way that medicine wasn't for them.

We know what works: mentorship, preparation, community, and timely financial support at the exact moment it's needed. Rising Doctors delivers that last piece.

Why It Matters

Only 11% of U.S. physicians come from minority groups, and few come from low-income backgrounds. Meanwhile, women in minority and low-income communities face a 40% higher breast cancer mortality rate, and infants born into low-income families die at up to 2.3 times the rate of their more affluent peers.

Patients do better when their doctors understand their lives. Every Rising Doctor you fund becomes a physician who returns to serve the communities that need them most.
