About the Workshop

Do you wonder why the same old issues keep resurfacing even after you thought they were resolved? Do you find yourself mediating between those who want change and those who want things to stay the same? Are you concerned about multicultural clashes? Do the complexities and conflicts feel overwhelming? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you will likely find this session helpful.

In this relevant, highly interactive session, we will explore how to recognize, understand, manage, and eclipse destructive conflicts and move toward our GREATER PURPOSE. As an added benefit, you may gain perspective on chronic problems, cultural clashes, and change dynamics.

About Your Instructors

Chandra Goforth Irvin MDIV, M.Ed., PMM

Coach, Facilitator, Minister for Peace
Advancing peace, purpose, and wholeness in human relations

Chandra Goforth Irvin is President of Irvin, Goforth & Irvin LLC, a consulting firm that has helped individuals and organizations throughout the U.S. and abroad clarify their purpose, surmount chronic problems, resolve conflicts, achieve desired change, and build community across diverse groups.

Chandra served as Executive Director for the Community of Peace and Spiritual Renewal at Spalding University. There she served on the leadership team and advanced the creation and implementation of an institutional vision and strategies for promoting peace and spiritual growth. She led the University and supported the City in developing restorative and spiritual practices to promote community relations through the Synergy project, and collaborated with the Schools of Social Work and Psychology to establish an interdisciplinary training institute to help the University and the larger community promote justice and equity.

Following the shooting of 9 worshipers in Emanuel A.M.E Church in 2015, Chandra served on the consultant team that designed and facilitated Charleston, South Carolina’s year-long “Illumination Project,” a city-wide process to “strengthen citizen/police relations grounded in trust and legitimacy.” Her primary contributions included using polarity thinking to advance cross-cultural understanding, designing training for “talking circle” facilitators and community leaders, and building an interfaith program that anchored the community’s transformation.

A graduate of Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary, Chandra has provided coaching, pastoral care, spiritual development, and consultations in her faith communities for individuals, couples, groups, and spiritual leaders seeking clear purpose and greater peace in their relationships with God, self, and others. She occasionally serves as a licensed itinerant preacher and previously served as a (CPE) hospice chaplain at Hosparus Health, Louisville, KY.

Irvin has authored books and contributed to several articles on peace, human relations, and leveraging polarities for the greater good. As a Fielding Lewis Walker Fellow, her life and work frequently draw on the transformative and timeless wisdom of mystic, philosopher, theologian, prophet, and community builder Howard Thurman.

Chandra and her husband, Nat, are members of Burnett Avenue Baptist Church in Louisville, KY. They have three adult children (Trey, Jovian, and Roman) and a granddaughter (Jorgie). They enjoy family, travel, sports, gardening, and kayaking.
