Can we measure the effectiveness of NEOC and Omaha’s Human Rights and Relations departments?

As Nebraska moves into the twilight zone of racism and race equity struggle, we are faced with the daunting task of determining who are friends or foes in the quest for equity, equality, and equilibrium for African Americans. These publicly funded entities have no African Americans with profound roots in our communities and families on their boards or within their circle of influence. Have those departments and entities hindered the quest for racial justice? Do their nearly all-white racist staff and folks who barely work for the people in our community do a good job? How can that be measured by their absence in our community events, function, and data on antiracism endeavors?

Community members have asked for data, accountability, and transparency from such cottage government programs for years. We have been met with silence or inadequate numbers, illustrating that staff members are dancing on tables. The quality of services has been slow, the staff members have no enforcement power, and most of all, their acquiescence is about pacifying the victims of American democracy.

Do the historical victims of apartheid in Nebraska help in the settlements or mediation or arbitration and provide accountability to their outputs? Do the salaries and departments’ budgets save the taxpayers’ funds? Do they have community members beating down their doors?

The state of Alabama, with its southern roots of historical racial discrimination, does not waste time dancing around the hat but allows the racial victims to take the offending parties directly to the court system. We must take the abolishment stance because these are all white saviors who will not return phone calls or correspondences because they know us better than we know ourselves. Are there African American males or females who question their qualifications and authority to be in the so-called struggle for our rights? The appointment and anointed positions have run their course. Would we be better off not having long-term buffering process departments hinder our quest for justice?

Should We Eliminate The EOC & The Omaha Human Relations Department?
