OUR STORY

For more than two decades, R.O.C. — Restore Our Communities has carried a vision of restoring hope, strengthening communities, and giving people a platform to be seen, heard, and valued.

Now, we are taking that mission to the next generation.

We are launching Hear Our Voices / Empowering Youth Voices, a youth media and leadership initiative designed to give young people a safe, positive, and creative environment where they can talk about the issues affecting their lives while developing real-world skills.

Too many young people are talked about.

We want to give them a place where they can be talked with — and heard.

Through this program, young people will learn skills including:

Writing and storytelling
Podcast and television hosting
Camera operation
Audio and microphone production
Lighting and video production
Interviewing and communication
Leadership and teamwork
Responsible use of media
Community engagement

Our goal is to begin with approximately 8–10 young people ages 12–18 and create youth-led programming where they can discuss education, relationships, peer pressure, violence, mental wellness, leadership, career goals, community concerns, and the issues that matter to them.

Launching a professional youth media program requires more than a microphone and a camera.

Our $50,000 Phase One fundraising goal will help R.O.C. establish the equipment, training, production support, and safe working environment necessary to begin the program.
