Launched in 2023, the EMS (Eat More Salad) initiative by Food on the Stove is transforming workplace wellness for first responders and ER staff, those who protect and care for our communities, often while neglecting their own health.

Emergency personnel frequently skip meals or resort to fast food due to long hours, high stress, and unpredictable shifts. EMS addresses this challenge by providing freshly prepared, nutrient-dense, high-fiber salads, convenient, ready to eat, and thoughtfully crafted to nourish, not just fill.

We’re proud to deliver these meals through our new commercial smart fridge, installed directly inside hospital emergency rooms. This innovative fridge gives EMS and ER staff 24/7 access to fresh, healthy salads and supports secure, trackable transactions. It also collects real-time data to help us evaluate impact, track usage trends, and demonstrate improved access to nutritious meals during demanding shifts.

With a goal of providing 1,000 salads every month and hosting monthly wellness and nutrition workshops, EMS empowers frontline workers to make better food choices that support heart health, focus, and long-term well-being.
