We honor the resilience and sacrifices of our veterans by ensuring they have safe and affordable childcare during their post-military transition.

The lesser discussed challenge is the immense impact the military transition has on childcare. Moving off a military installation, means losing access to subsidized chilcare and that is costly for the entire family. The cost of childcare increases anywhere from $600 a month to upwards of $1600 a month.

Here at FFWW, we focus on the needs of our veterans and their families. Nearly 70% of all the veterans we serve have one or more children, and of those that receive financial or childcare assistance, 62% are single parents, like Kimberlee*.

Our Childcare Assistance program ensures our veterans have safe and affordable care and guarantees that their children's learning continues during school breaks. We also ensure veteran families do not go without necessities, like diapers, cribs, car seats, and strollers. Even our financial education offers courses on how parents can teach their children good money habits.

Childcare costs are rising and often keep veteran families from pursuing their career and educational goals.

Our solution: Now through June 30th, 2025, we are calling on our community to help us raise $100,000 to expand our Childcare Assistance programs that benefit both veteran and child. By providing support for post-military childcare, addressing financial insecurity, and delivering resources we help veterans build a foundation where veteran families thrive.

Kimberlee's story

Balancing the demands of parenting with establishing a new career, continuing education, finding suitable housing, and accessing healthcare can be overwhelming for transitioning service members. One of the most significant challenges our veteran families report is the lack of affordable childcare. Kimberlee*, like many veterans, found that she earned a tad too much to qualify for state childcare assistance, yet was unable to get ahead. Worried her children would fall behind or that she would have to miss work, Kimberlee* reached out to our team.

Our Childcare Assistance program alleviates financial stress and allows veterans, like Kimberlee*, to focus on moving their careers and family forward while her children are in safe care. Our stipends cover costs for daycare and allow children to attend camps during school breaks ensuring learning continues.

“FFWW has given me a boost of hope. FFWW doesn’t make me feel like I “should be” or “why I am not” at a certain position in my life but empowers me to navigate forward while inviting me to be a part of a village that allows me to focus on what matters most and not the strains of financial burdens that come with being a single mom of 4 sons, who works full-time and pursuing her degree. Our Impact

Last Fiscal Year we served a total of 2,095 unduplicated women and children of which 94% of our financial assistance clients remained in their homes for at least 6 months, 93% remained employed OR enrolled/graduated degree programs, and 98% of professional development participants reported an increase in confidence in thier post military transition.
