The FLIP Museum is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) organization, focused on inspiring learning through play and building community in the Portland Metro Area. It was formed after the closure of the Portland Children's Museum, after 75 years, during the COVID-19 pandemic. The vision is to create a network of children's museums, mobile museums, and exhibit installations in community spaces, to ensure all children in the community have access to play-based learning.

The FLIP Children's Museum of Hillsboro, which opened in December 2024, continues to evolve to offer new, hands-on learning experiences for children 0-10 and their families. It offers party rentals, summer camps, and special events like our annual Day of Play each summer.

The FLIP Mobile Museum, which launched in April 2022, visits schools, family shelters, and community events across the region. Our Play Kitchen Food Cart continues to be the most popular experience, but many new STEAM experiences are being added for 2026, based on Native American culture and traditions.

The FLIP Children's Museum of Portland will be the flagship location for the organization, but it does not yet have a timeline to launch.

FLIP is sustained through the generous support of the community. A majority of our funding comes from individuals and organizations who want to see the return of a children's museum to the community that is bigger and stronger than ever. Our volunteers help with everything from museum operations and program development to back office tasks and fundraising.
