In Texas, more than 11,000 children are in foster care - many carrying the scars of abuse, neglect, and trauma. 72% are behind in grade level, and foster care youth have the lowest graduation rates. Without intervention, they face a higher risk of dropping out, re-entering the system, being incarcerated or facing homelessness and poverty.

You can help break that cycle.

When you Step for Students, every mile you walk or run funds free, one-on-one tutoring that helps vulnerable youth catch up in school, build confidence, and create brighter futures.

What is Steps for Students? A virtual walk/run fundraiser that turns your movement into momentum for vulnerable youth to succeed in school and beyond.

How to Step for Students:

📅 Starts September 19, 2025 and ends October 19, 2025

1️⃣Create a team, join a team or individuals can join the Learning Bridge team - Click "Pledge Your Miles"

2️⃣Set your goal for your sponsors to help attain. Tell us in your bio how many miles you plan to step.

3️⃣Rally Sponsors – Share your pledge link with friends, family, neighbors, coworkers, and ask for their support — per mile or as a flat donation.

4️⃣Log Your Miles – Walk or run anytime from Sept. 19 - October 19 while sponsors make their donations.

5️⃣Keep an eye on our socials and email for the leaderboard! Will your name be there?

6️⃣ Party with Us! - Join us at the Daisy Dash on October 19 for your final steps and a celebration of all the miles we’ve achieved! Or join us at Nomadic Outpost for a post-run toast; we'll be there starting at 9am!

Good to Know:

No cost to participate (Daisy Dash entry is optional).
Miles are logged on the honor system. You can use your phones health app or a walk/run tracking app.
Anyone can step for students - kids, families, and friends in any state.

About Learning Bridge. Learning Bridge screens and trains community volunteers to tutor foster care and unhoused youth in grades K–12 across Travis, Hays, Williamson, Bastrop, Bell, and Caldwell counties in Texas. Volunteers commit to showing up each week to help students with homework or challenging subjects. The program is free for foster and kinship families and aims to close academic gaps, build confidence, and break the cycle of hardships.
