Food Revolution Alliance - Startup resources to launch

Food Revolution Network is a B-corp with 1.1 million members. Food Revolution Alliance is an aligned charitable organization also founded by bestselling authors John and Ocean Robbins, with a mission of healthy, ethical, sustainable food for all.

Founded in 2024, the goal of this organization will be to advance the food revolution mission in the world through media, campaigns, and programs that help to turn the tide on the chronic disease epidemic, reduce animal suffering, and contribute to a healthier and more sustainable future for life on Earth.

Key facts:

US healthcare spending on chronic disease: $4 Trillion/year.
Healthy diet and lifestyle can prevent 50% of stroke, 90% of Type 2 diabetes, 65% of coronary heart disease, and many cases of cancer and Alzheimer’s.
Black and Hispanic Americans are about twice as likely as Caucasians to develop Alzheimer's or another dementia, and 30% more likely to die of heart disease.
The economic burden of racial and ethnic health disparities in the US in 2018 was estimated at $451 billion.
Livestock now make up 62% of the world’s biomass; humans account for 34%; and the wild mammals are down to just 4%.
Globally, 83% of the world’s agricultural land is being used for animal agriculture - to produce just 18% of the world’s calories.
Moving towards a more whole foods, plant-based diet can save trillions of dollars, millions of lives - and it could be critical to the future of human life on Earth.

Our Approach

Food Revolution Alliance will initiate projects aimed at addressing these issues. There are many projects we might choose to focus on, including launching initiatives to make healthy food more accessible and affordable to low income communities; looking for strategic intervention points to help policy better support public health; producing films, courses, and and campaigns aimed at public education and mobilization; and supporting small-scale grassroots social justice-themed food revolutionary initiative.

Projects May Include:

Working with local community leaders to create initiatives designed to support healthy outcomes in communities with challenging health outcomes (for example, Navajo Nation; Selma, AL; or rural West Virginia), with film documentation.
Film production (making movies that can reach mass audiences with a food revolution message).
Produce prescriptions (a campaign to enable doctors to prescribe fruits and vegetables to patients with highly lifestyle-responsive conditions, and to have them paid for by Medicare and big insurance companies).
Double Up Bucks (a campaign to fund SNAP dollars so that they are worth twice as much when used to purchase fruits and vegetables).
A campaign to get ultra-processed food addiction included in the DSM-5.
Campaigns to get plant-based dairy alternatives widely available in schools - especially in communities with large numbers of students who are lactose intolerant.
A mastermind for whole foods plant-based food movement leaders.
Campaigns focused on improving the nutritional value of school meals.
Creating free online course content, hosted by and intended for specific ethnic groups and communities (with a budget for use ads to promote the free course content)
Forming a community-building or activist hub for fellow food revolutionaries to connect and organize by region or topic.
