Figure Skating in Detroit (FSD) is a unique organization that combines the grace and discipline of figure skating with a commitment to empowering young girls in Detroit. Founded with the belief that every girl deserves the opportunity to thrive, FSID provides a supportive and nurturing environment where girls can develop both on and off the ice.

Key Objectives:

Skating and Academic Programs: FSD offers a comprehensive program that integrates figure skating training with academic support. Through our after-school and summer programs, girls receive quality coaching in figure skating while also participating in tutoring, mentoring, and enrichment activities to support their academic success.
Empowerment and Leadership Development: FSD is committed to building confidence and leadership skills in our participants. Through workshops, seminars, and mentorship opportunities, girls learn valuable life skills such as goal-setting, teamwork, and resilience, empowering them to overcome challenges and achieve their dreams.
Community Engagement and Outreach: FSD actively engages with the local community to promote the benefits of figure skating and empower girls from underserved backgrounds. We partner with schools, community centers, and other organizations to reach girls who may not have access to traditional skating programs, providing them with opportunities for growth and enrichment.

Program Highlights

Our enriching after-school initiative, "I Can Excel," anchors itself in a robust curriculum featuring Tutoring, STEM, Financial Literacy, College Access, LeaderShape, Fitness & Figure Skating lessons. These sessions run from Monday through Thursday, energizing the vibrant community of metro Detroit.

•Every year, FSD serves a combined 200 girls through our after-school, summer camp and workshop programming

•Signature after school program, I Can Excel (ICE) runs the duration of the academic school year with 1:4 ratio for small group tutoring

• FSD Program attendance rates exceed the national average

•80% of FSD girls receive A's & B's in the core subject Reading

•75% of FSD girls receive A's & B's in the core subject Math

•100% of FSD girls receive college acceptances
