For The Village is a community-rooted nonprofit in San Diego providing free and low-cost doula services and education for all families across the reproductive spectrum, with a focus on Black, Brown, LGBTQIA+, immigrant, and low-income birthing people. We train doulas who come from the communities most impacted by health disparities and support them with education, mentorship, and connection to paid work.

This summer, we're raising $15,000 to train our next cohort of community-based doulas, because every birth deserves care, choice, and justice.

Why We Train Doulas?

Black and Brown birthing people in the U.S. are 3 times more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes.
California's investment in Medi-Cal doula coverage is historic, but without trained doulas, that promise falls flat. As a community-based organization, For The Village is uniquely positioned to advocate for doulas and ensure policy shifts lead to equitable access during the rollout of Medicaid coverage.
We train doulas from the communities most impacted by birth disparities to meet rising demand and save lives.

We have been providing free, culturally competent doula care in San Diego to over 700 families since 2018.
Our doulas are trained as advocates, caregivers, and changemakers, serving across the full spectrum of pregnancy, including miscarriage and postpartum.
We don't just train doulas, we train leaders who challenge and reimagine birth work.

What Success Looks Like
