A plein air painting class for the skills of “loosening up” those tight, controlled painting ways!

This 3 day painting workshop is focused on learning:

loosening up your painting style and approach
using bigger brushes with confidence
using expressive strokes and using more paint to get there!
boldly laying down more paint on your palette
scooping up more paint, making one amazing stroke, and leaving it alone!
breathing effortlessly while doing all that!

The first day of class will be in the classroom.

We will squirt out lots more paint than you are used to (don’t worry, I’ll supply that paint).
We will work with bigger brushes, practice loading up those brushes, and handling the paint with wonderful and energetic results.
We will try color mixing that is only possible with larger amounts of paint.
We will add in non-toxic mediums, swirl it around, and not make mud.
Then to the easels, apply these new skills so you get the feel for this whole new set of skills.
Additionally, we audition the benefit of underpainting, a great supporter of looser work.

Day two, we paint outdoors, and apply composition choices and canvas sizes that benefit from the loose style, so you can decide what to paint, and why. We’ll be out all day, so bring lunch and a chair! All the outdoor stuff.

Day three, we paint outdoors again, as your confidence builds with using more paint, bigger brushes, and composition choices that enhance your artistic voice.
End of day, we will gather for sharing our work, asking more questions and laughing about how much more loose and confident you are now! And how surprisingly luscious your painting has become.
