WHAT IS FIRE REHAB?

Emergency Scene Rehab provides firefighters and other emergency personnel with medical monitoring, hydration, nutrition, shelter, and rest when involved in an extended incident.

The goal of rehab is to prevent first responders from developing significant illnesses related to exposure or exertion, such as heatstroke or heart attack.

IS THIS TRUELY NEEDED?

There are 696 Fire Departments in the state of Tennessee alone. 74% of those departments are fully volunteer. 98% of those departments DO NOT have a dedicated rehab unit. Even the majority of paid departments do not have a dedicated rehab unit.

WHY DO MOST DEPARTMENTS NOT HAVE A DEDICATED REHAB UNIT?

There are many reasons a fire department might not have a dedicated rehab unit, but the number one answer is COST. A traditional rehab unit is made from a large van or truck and the starting costs are close to $250,000.

Our founder worked with a large volunteer department that has a dedicated Special Ops Unit that also serves as a Rehab Unit. While it is a great asset to the department the apparatus required special training for drivers and it is too large to go off-road. While the apparatus is great for large events it can be impractical in tight spots. This got him to thinking.

What if there were a light truck based rehab unit that could serve as a medical first responder unit for daily calls and also serve as a primary rehab unit for smaller calls and public assist? And what if that unit were affordable for practically every department? What if rural departments could have a unit that would cost less than a digital radio system or a brush truck?

WHAT ARE THE FEATURES OF THIS REHAB UNIT?

Our premier Rehab Unit, currently in development, the FLORIAN 101ST is a dedicated fire-rehab & first responder truck bed box insert designed for emergency scene support. This plug-and-play insert comes equipped to provide basic shelter, hydration, nutrition, lighting, and medical monitoring for any emergency scene. There is even a plan to provide a satellite wi-fi hotspot for disaster scenes. This multifunctional unit can also facilitate medical first responder calls, supervisor/chief unit, and ALS backup.

WHAT IS THE PLAN FOR THIS CAMPAIGN?

Once we meet our goal of $80,000 we plan to begin constructing our prototype. With an additional $20,000 we hope to test and try the prototype and work out any obvious issues. With an additional $300,000 we will begin pilot production of at least three test trucks that will be field tested by mid-sized departments. The final phase of start-up will be the manufacturing of units.
