Why We're Launching the Founding 100 Firefighter Safety Partners Campaign

Every day, firefighters willingly put themselves in harm's way to protect our communities. Most people think the greatest danger firefighters face is the fire itself. However, one of the leading threats to firefighter health and safety often comes after they leave the burning building.

Extreme heat, dehydration, physical exhaustion, and cardiovascular strain place firefighters at significant risk during and after emergency incidents. Cardiac events remain one of the leading causes of firefighter line-of-duty deaths. Many of these tragedies can be reduced through proper emergency scene rehabilitation—providing firefighters with hydration, cooling, medical monitoring, nutrition, and the opportunity to recover before returning to duty.

At Fire Rehab Foundation, we believe that every firefighter deserves access to these lifesaving resources, regardless of whether they serve in a large metropolitan department or a small rural volunteer fire department.

This mission became deeply personal when a firefighter was sent to rehab during an emergency incident and was found to be experiencing a serious medical emergency. Instead of simply recovering and returning to service, he was transported to the hospital, where he underwent emergency heart surgery. Rehab didn't just help him feel better—it helped save his life.

Unfortunately, many rural and volunteer fire departments lack the training, equipment, and support needed to establish effective rehabilitation programs. Fire Rehab Foundation exists to change that.

The Founding 100 Firefighter Safety Partners Campaign is an effort to build a community of 100 individuals who believe that protecting firefighters is a responsibility we all share. Through monthly support, these founding partners will help us:

Provide firefighter rehabilitation training to rural and volunteer departments
Develop local rehab teams equipped to support firefighters on emergency scenes
Supply rehabilitation resources that promote hydration, cooling, and medical monitoring
Increase awareness of the critical role rehab plays in preventing firefighter injuries and deaths
Create sustainable programs that improve firefighter health and safety for years to come

Our goal is simple: 100 people committed to protecting those who protect us.
