NEW WORKS IN THE SPIRIT OF MAHLER

We strongly believe that commissioning new music is one of the best ways to ensure Gustav Mahler's legacy as an innovator accompanies us throughout the 21st century. We have already achieved accolades with our commissions of The Mosaique of the Aire, by Sebastian Black, premiered by Orchestra of the Earth, and written for the Mahler Festival Amsterdam and Rick van Veldhuizen's 'mais le corps taché d’ombre', commissioned by the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and Mahler Foundation.

Did you know that Mahler Foundation commissions young, rising composers? We welcome your gift of any size that will create a new work by Xavier Foley to be premiered at the Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music 2023 conducted by Cabrillo's Music Director, Cristian Măcelaru. Gifts at the $250 level and above will be acknowledged in the program booklet.

PRESERVING THE LEGACY OF GUSTAV MAHLER

We are committed to preserving collections that showcase Gustav Mahler's work, having incorporated into our website donated collections of information about the man, his family, music and historical facts surrounding his life. As part of our Mission, we provide information freely and globally to scholars and enthusiasts. Please help us transform the valuable collection at UWO into a resource on our website, mahlerfoundation.org, the world's go-to site for all things Mahler.

The UWO houses a wonderful archive with one-of-a-kind materials related to Mahler: The Mahler-Rosé Archives.

This collection includes personal letters from Mahler to his sister Justine, and other members of his family ca. 1880-1910. There are over a hundred “celebrity letters” to Gustav Mahler and Arnold Rosé, and programmes, posters and tickets from performances of Mahler’s works, conducted by the Maestro.

Mahler Foundation’s partnership with UWO, one of Canada’s most prominent universities, safeguards this valuable collection of photographs and memorabilia, by cataloguing and digitizing, and making them accessible to the world.

EDUCATION

Music education is a core program and value at MF. Attracting young people to the concert hall, or helping them nurture their own works of art, we aim to improve people’s spiritual existence – be a part of helping to find the next Mahler for the 21st century and beyond by contributing to our education projects.

• Irapuato, Guanajuato, MEXICO

Mahler Foundation is proud to support the Gustav Mahler Conservatory based in the city of Irapuato, Mexico. The Conservatory has a Children’s Choir and a Youth Orchestra (ages 6 to 14) and thanks in part to MF, the Children’s Choir was rehearsed and coached and ultimately performed in Mahler’s Symphony No. 8 at the International Cervantino Festival – a historical concert in celebration of the 50th Anniversary of this renowned Festival. MF's goal is to fund the Conservatory, making possible a variety of inspiring activities as a follow up to the Mahler Symphony No. 8. These young musical artists can depend on Mahler Foundation's funding of their training that builds community and helps lift them out of the devastation of the country's drug cartels active in the area.

The Mahler Hour

This monthly live stream program allows us to stay connected and to share historical facts, anecdotes, the music, and the life of our cherished composer. This program is made possible thanks to the creativity and enthusiasm of our devoted Trustees and Directors and attracts members of all 53 Mahler Societies worldwide as well as new friends and followers through our social media channels.
