The number of first responders from the New York City Fire Department who have died from 9/11-related illnesses has surpassed 343, passing the number who lost their lives on the day of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. Departing from Dublin on September 9th and riding 360.1 KM /223.4 miles down the coast of Southern Ireland on bicycle, I will arrive in Kinsale on September 11th where a ceremony will be held to honor those lost on 9/11 and those we have since lost from 9/11-related illnesses. I will be riding to Kinsale with other FDNY firefighters and members of the Dublin Fire brigade in support of the nonprofit organization Friends of Firefighters. Friends of Firefighters is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization that provides independent, confidential, and free mental health counseling and wellness services to active and retired FDNY firefighters and their family members.
