Four Blind Kittens Ready to Conquer the World

Meet Tiresias, Sirius, Vega, and Lyra.

When these babies arrived at The Calico Coalition, they shared one heartbreaking reality:

they had never known a world without pain.

These 4 kittens arrived severely malnourished, anemic, burdened with parasites and Fly Strike, and battling severe upper respiratory infections. In just a few short weeks of life, they had already endured more than any animal should. Three of the kittens are completely blind. Their fourth sibling was fortunate enough to have one eye saved before the ocular disease process progressed beyond what treatment could fix. But for the others, severe, untreated infections left irreversible damage to their corneas. Their only option now is to undergo enucleation surgery to remove their damaged eyes.

While the thought of removing their eyes may sound devastating, the reality is just the opposite.

These kittens were only four weeks old when they entered our care, making it very likely they never had vision after their eyes first opened at 2 weeks old. And if they did, they likely have no recollection of such. Blind cats don't spend their lives wishing they could see. They adapt remarkably well and can navigate their surroundings, play, explore, and form deep bonds just like any other cat.

Our mission is to rescue the most vulnerable: those who are injured, medically fragile, or have special needs. We believe an animal's worth is never determined by a disability or chronic medical diagnosis but by their ability to live a comfortable life when given proper care.
