Even in the face of transphobic backlash from the Catholic Church, resulting in nearly half a million dollars being pulled from G.L.I.T.S’s life sustaining programing by conservative funders- G.L.I.T.S’s leader Ceyenne Doroshow insists on a future where trans people get to live, heal, dream and build true collective power, on our terms.

This pride, it is our duty to give this godmother of our movement her flowers, and material support, while she is still here.

In a time of increased targeting against our community G.L.I.T.S has big plans to keep us thriving and protected: in Housing, Education, Wellness, Emergency Response, Harm reduction & End of Life Support.

G.L.I.T.S & Ceyenne have proven time & time again that they’re a notorious and groundbreaking force to be reckoned with - A key example being G.L.I.T’s owned building, purchased in 2020 after our last successful Million Dollar Fundraiser.

What started as a life sustaining project providing safe housing for formerly incarcerated BIPOC trans people in the height of COVID-19, has now become an incubator transforming residents' lives - helping them find jobs, supporting them in getting college degrees and providing them with an interdependent, trans ecosystem of care.

This June, we invite you to contribute to our second 1 Million Dollar fundraiser, to sustain and expand G.L.I.T.S’s urgent, life affirming programing.

What Will I be Funding?

Housing- $400,000

After an incredibly successful trans housing pilot program, it became clearer than ever that we need more trans operated emergency housing programs. These programs not only allow for a temporary respite to formerly incarcerated and/or otherwise unhoused BIPOC trans people, but provide tenants with the tangible tools necessary to transform their lives including free emergency housing, long term rental subsidy/assistance, financial consulting, tenant rights education, housing placement services and access to additional G.L.I.T.S programing mentioned below.

Study & Work - $200,000

G.L.I.T.S has proudly supported countless community members in finding sustainable employment and completing their higher education degrees. While outsourcing the job training programs, career counseling, GED and other college prep classes - G.L.I.T.S noticed that the main factor preventing some members from completing these programs is the intense transphobia they face in these predominantly cis/straight environments. G.L.I.T.S is working to build a new learning center in the basement level of the G.L.I.T.S building - where tutors, teachers and consultants will teach in trans affirming environments.

Wellness Centers- $150,000

G.L.I.T.S is working to create two trans owned wellness/retreat centers where trans people get to unwind, rest, farm, heal and be together.

The first center, aims to be located at Riis Beach, while working with the city to maintain it as a state recognized historical landmark and landtrust for the TLGBQ+ community.

The second center, located on 40 acres of land in upstate New York, will function as a retreat center where trans organizers, creators and survivors can come together to intentionally focus on holistic personal and collective care - building tools to grow and be in right relationship with nature and the land.

Harm Reduction & End of Life Support - $150,000

The current reality of our community is that our oppression doesn’t end with our deaths - as unjust wills, life insurance premiums and memorial/burial regulations keep our remaining community overburdened even after we are gone. Amidst this devastation, G.L.I.T.S insists on doing what it can to both insure that those who can survive do: by providing harm reduction and safety training to community members around drug use, sex work, suicidality and street safety; And working with friends and families of those we have lost to insure the existence of sustainable wills, life insurance policies, respectful funeral arrangments, gender affirming burials and legislations looking to decriminalize and humanize our existence and our deaths.

Emergency Fund - $100,000

This is G.L.I.T.S’s direct response fund to community's urgent and emergent needs. G.L.I.T.S strives to maintain a budget that allows it to be there in moments of emergency. Whether it be by providing warm clothes for winter, bail support, medical assistance, safe transportation, nourishing food, mental health services or any emergency assistance – G.L.I.T.S does what it can, when it can, to keep fighting like hell for the living.
