TL;DR:

Our year-end goal in 2026 is to raise $74,000 by December 31st! By donating today, you have the power to seed our next step network approach to reach 29,000+ students and 1550+ teachers in 85 schools in our first 2 geographies (the US & Kenya) over the next 3 years.

The Details:

Our "Apple-a-Day" Solution

We equip teachers in schools to teach with nature by delivering bite-sized, attainable "apple-a-day" nature connections on school grounds.

Apple-a-day nature connections can look like factoring with leaves or sequencing the events of A Very Hungry Caterpillar with cards hung on bushes. They can smell like a flower in the school garden and taste like fresh greens. They can sound like poetry about trees or like shouts of discovery in a symmetry scavenger hunt. And so much more.

Apple-a-day nature connections feel like joyful teaching and learning.

Our Impact

Mountains of research now demonstrate: connecting with more-than-human nature can improve teaching and learning, enhance social and mental wellbeing, and foster attitudes of care for our planet.

After piloting our apple-a-day approach with over 780 educators in more than 90 schools in wildly diverse settings, from Nairobi's informal settlements to rural Colorado mountain towns, we've seen it first hand; our data follows the research.

In a survey conducted at the end of our Outdoor Learning Collaboration with 72 teachers at 2 Nairobi informal settlement schools, here's what teachers said:

Our Strategic Plan

In our 2026 strategic plan, we committed to an ambitious 10-year target and we documented a path to get us there.

Our 10-year Target:

By 2037, 100,000 teachers connect 1.8 million students in 6 countries with nature's benefits in school.

Our Next Big Step: Networks

To reach 1.8 million students by 2037, we don’t just work with individual schools. We are leveraging our proven train-the-trainer model with 2 networks of connected schools to reach 1550+ teachers and 29,000+ students in 85 schools over the next 3 years.

Our first 2 networks:

🇺🇸 NACA Network

In the US, we are thrilled to be collaborating with the Native American Community Academy in Albuquerque, NM. Together, we will expand our reach to 35 schools, ~1,000 teachers, and 14,000+ students over 3 years. Costs drop to just $27 per student reached and $418 per teacher trained.

🇰🇪 Kenya Network

In Kenya, we'll start with 10 schools and 30 Fellows in collaboration with Jackfruit Network. Those Fellows will become facilitators who reach 40 additional Jackfruit Network schools—unlocking nature’s benefits in 50 schools with 550+ teachers, and 15,000+ students in just 2 years. Costs drop to just $8 per student reached and $214 per teacher trained.
