We are moving from our 6 and 1/2 year location.
Our current Location rent was to be increased. The extra $10,000 plus per month increase would make our rent well over $15,000 per month. We have already been paying for a kitchen we can not use for several months,

Destiny Community Cafe serves Charleston, South Carolina and surrounding areas.

We provide mostly local produce, as well as education on health and wellness, to food insecure neighborhoods. No matter what their ability to pay. Volunteer in exchange for a meal options are available.

As a 501(c)3 nonprofit, we are depending on your generous donations to help us with transition to a food truck & This will be something we will own.

We offer meals to anyone regardless of race, color, religion, sex, age or their ability to pay.

To some, it may be just a truck serving delicious food but we’re also sharing faith, hope and encouragement by:

· Serving amazing Gullah & international comfort food with a focus on health and wellness.

· Mentoring young chefs and help them hone their culinary, teamwork and leadership skills, build relationships and find jobs

· Collaborating with local charity groups to distribute food to the homeless and hungry.

· Creating events that provide job opportunities, skills training, hiring assistance and personal growth opportunities.

I have just learned about the loss of Destiny Cafe in North Charleston. They are being moved out of their space due to a rent increase that only the ultra wealthy can afford. 30 day notice. Not sure how you shut down a successful restaurant in 30 days.

This is a huge blow to our community. Destiny Cafe has run for many years. You can go in and have a meal and leave funds to provide a meal for another person who doesn't have funds right now for food. They have also been a Godsend for people moving into housing that have few resources to start. They have helped many people get on their feet. Project OKURASE operates a Ghana-Charleston link program called The Ties That Bind Us and every group that has come to Charleston for our program has visited Destiny Cafe and has been inspired. They have felt that they learned about Gullah Geechee culture -food, songs, storytelling. They have had a traditional meal and left funds for others to eat.
