Every Golden Deserves a Second Chance

In 1992, a small group of people who loved Golden Retrievers looked around and saw something they couldn't ignore: too many good dogs being abandoned simply because they didn't have a home. So they did something about it. That group became GRIN — Golden Retrievers In Need Rescue Service — and for over 30 years, we've carried their mission forward, one dog at a time.

We rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome Golden Retrievers and Golden mixes who need us most. Some come from shelters. Some come from puppy mills that experience neglect and mistreatment. Some are surrendered by breeders, found wandering as strays, or given up by families who can no longer care for them. However they find their way to us, we promise them the same thing: they will be loved, cared for, and given every chance at the life they deserve. We're entirely volunteer-run, which means every single dollar you give goes straight to what matters — medical care, training, and the road to a forever home.

Why they need us now more than ever

We still see dogs arrive from puppy mills and commercial breeders across Ohio, but lately, it's a different kind of heartbreak that brings the most dogs to our door: families forced to say goodbye. A job lost. A diagnosis. A move they didn't choose. These are people who loved their dogs deeply but simply ran out of options — and we're here to catch the dog they couldn't keep. We also partner with shelters, humane societies, and dog wardens across the region to help ease overcrowded kennels, one rescue at a time.

Who we rescue

Most of our dogs are between 6 months and 8 years old, though we've welcomed pups as young as 4 weeks and seniors as old as 14. We believe every Golden deserves a home, no matter their age or what they've been through. Some arrive with serious medical needs that require months of veterinary care. Others just need patience — a foster family to teach them what love and structure feel like for the first time. Every dog who comes to GRIN is vaccinated, spayed or neutered, and given whatever medical attention they need, before settling into a loving foster home while we search for the family who will keep them forever.

Your support doesn't just save a dog. It gives a family their happy ending, too.
