Meet Janice and Charles.

Janice obtained her PhD from USC.

Charles worked 48 hours a week at a local grocery store.

These are some our local neighbors who are part of our community caught in the current housing crisis. They need nourishment for themselves and their children while they tirelessly search for safe, affordable, dignified housing.

Now for the update! Today, Janice and Charles are currently housed and stable, and Janice is working again! Grass Roots Neighbors continues to provide groceries to make sure they stay stable while they build a stronger foundation.

Imagine having healthy food so you can think clearly, feel alert, and ensure your babies are well so you can pay for housing applications, save money for rent, get medications when needed, and know you have a community behind you for any resources you need to ensure a more stable future.

And this is only a little bit of what our volunteer organization does.

THOUSANDS of pounds of food diverted from waste each month.
60 families receive bi-weekly groceries, resulting in approximately 15,000 bags of food delivered this year.
125 outreach contacts every Sunday, with hot meals, supplies, and connections to resources.
More than 80 volunteers show up every single week to ensure people have food to eat, diapers for their kids, hygeine supplies, cleaning supplies for their homes, and resources to keep them stably housed or move them toward housing.
Getting Showers and Services up and running to bring health and dignity through hygeine, with food and housing resources, to the streets.

Join us for Grass Roots Neighbors' End of Year Fundraising Kick-off event - Photos with Santa! Come by for a professional high-res digital photo to share with family and friends. You will receive a digital copy that you can email, post to social, and will be able to send to a printer if you want! Come solo, with family, friends, co-workers, even your well-behaved and friendly pet!

We’ll have warm beverages, holiday treats, kids’ activities, and tours of our operations. Give what you can. Everyone welcome!

Our end-of-year fundraising goal this year is $35,000 so we can continue to assist 60 families, provide 125 meals each week for unhoused neighbors, and invest in our new shower and services program. Families are still sacrificing too much to pay their rent - nutritious food and basic hygienic supplies should not be the compromise for staying housed. Thank you for helping us ensure stability for local families and all the work our volunteers do in the community.

Tacos y Mariscos Rojinegro Food Truck will be there, dishing out delicious food- and donating a portion of proceeds to GRN.

Can I bring canned goods to the event instead?

This year we ask for financial contributions of any amount instead of in-kind food donations. We greatly appreciate the support our community offers. Now that we serve 60 families a week and hoping to expand to more families, we need items in bulk to ensure an equitable distribution of food and hygeine products. Many staples are donated to us from local sources, and our donors help us fill the gaps so we can purchase the proper amount of dairy products, foods high in protein, nutritious items for children, hygiene products such as diapers, body wash, menstrual products, and uncommon food bank items such as oil, salt, etc. So your finanical gift goes a long way for us and our program participants.

Grass Roots Neighbors is a volunteer community organization. We meet the immediate needs of our neighbors experiencing food and housing insecurity. We mobilize to fill the gaps in existing services by providing assistance with love and respect. GRN is a 501(c)(3), our EIN is 84-1784513.
