Since 2016, Gender Unbound has created life-affirming community spaces for trans and intersex people in central Texas.

We want to celebrate with a day of art-making, community-connecting, delightful performances, honoring our trans & intersex anscestors, and more!

To escape the heat of the day, we're holding indoor workshops in the afternoon. Space is limited; get your tickets before they fill up!

Daytime Indoor Creative Workshops ($10 Limited Spots)

Workshops are open to all. After each workshop, there will be an open arts and crafting indoor space where you can continue to work on what you've started and hang out. It'll be a place to stay if you want to stick around for the evening festivities and don't want to leave and return.

3 PM: Sacred Beads with Bis and Montie

Open to people of any faith or none at all! Prayer beads can help you count prayers, focus during meditation, or ground yourself in a moment of difficulty. They can also simply be a luxurious, non-plastic fidget toy bringing a little extra loveliness into your life. Craft your own set of special beads based on the traditions, numbers, symbols, and colors that resonate with you. Our experienced workshop leaders will be there to guide you the whole way.

4 PM: Gender Affirming Handwriting with Jae Lin

Our handwriting is a part of our voice and expression in the world! Want to try on some different handwriting styles and see how it feels? Just like our gender, it can be fun to play with legibility, conformity, and traditions. Come and meet a spectrum of handwriting inspo, get tips on how to practice and transform your handwriting, and discover ways to love how you write!

Join hand-lettering artist (and Gender Unbound's Executive Director) Jae Lin for this sweet space to cherish the personal act of writing something by hand. This workshop is open to all people of all genders who are able to write by hand.

Optional: Bring your favorite writing utensils.

5 PM: Infinitely Repeating Art with Drew Riley

Learn to create seamless patterns on iPad! Getting lost in wallpapers and patterned textiles is satisfying. Your eye wanders endlessly, constantly discovering new things to focus on. Want to make your own? With the right method, creating seamless patterns can feel as casual as sketching, with no pre-planning.

Digital and traditional artist, Drew Riley, will teach you her pattern making process using free software (Fresco and Affinity) on iPad that results in crisp vector files without touching curve handles. Don’t think of stiff symmetry or geometric tiles. This method lends itself to imprecise, hand-drawn art that shows off the personality and style of the artist. Participants will be guided to use a limited color palette and solid colors (no gradients/soft shading).

This is a 201 class for digital artists with a basic understanding of layer-based drawing software (Procreate, Photoshop, etc.). You must provide your own apple pencil and iPad preloaded with Adobe Fresco and Affinity (both free). Specific experience with Fresco/Affinity not needed
