A Message from David:

Please join me in helping families and individuals fighting cancer find help through financial assistance and community. While not all of us can help directly in Hawaii, hopefully I can inspire you through running 26.2 miles to support from afar. Human life is beautiful and together we can help alleviate some of the stressors and contribute toward healing.

In 2024, I got to know Joshua through mutual friends in Washington State. We have grown close as brothers in Christ and got together for some training this last August. As a man, father, and husband Joshua's energy is contagious. Joshua shared Trucker's story and the details his passing 10 days before his 4th birthday. I'm a father of two sons and cannot imagine the emotions of losing a child. As I learned about his family's loss I was also introduced to Shauna's work supporting others dealing with grief, and her book 'Even If'. As a family they make me want to both be a better human and better support my friends dealing with grief. I want to run these miles to honor the Dukes, honor Trucker's legacy, and help others in need.

About UVSC (Us Versus Cancer):

UVSC’s mission is to provide hope by raising funds for individuals fighting cancer, as well as support cutting-edge research for a cure. UVSC stands for “Us Versus Cancer” and is a Hawaii-based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that was founded by cancer survivor, Jamil Newirth, and Chris Thibaut, who lost his father to cancer in 1997. Inspired by the community who took it upon themselves to organize events and support Jamil after he was diagnosed with Stage IV brain cancer, UVSC was created with a vision of bringing communities together to support each other in times of greatest need and against all odds – and most importantly, to provide hope so no one has to fight cancer alone.
