I am Brenda K. Johnson, a retired military officer who met my interpreter in Afghanistan. He was my driver, interpreter, helper, and friend. We shared many dangerous encounters, and he bravely spoke up and guided us through them.

When we moved out of Afghanistan in August 2021, he and his family were unable to board one of the planes. It took us two years more to devise a plan to safely transport them to Pakistan in September 2023. In March 2024, the Pakitan government told the family they had to return to Afghanistan to obtain updated Visas.

Once, back in Afghanistan, he was turned in by someone, and the Taliban rearrested him. This is the fourth time that the Taliban has arrested him and severely beaten him again. Last week, the Taliban charged him with being a spy.

All the money being raised is for Ali and his family. First, the family needs to leave Afghanistan and return to Pakistan because Afghanistan is unsafe for them. Secondly, we are working and raising money to get him out of prison. Also, his son, who is twenty-one years old, has been held in an Afghanistan prison since May 2022.

I realize there are many people with needs. The Afghanistan interpreters believed what we were told, "if you help us, we will get you and your family to safety." They are our allies. They gave their lives for us. Now it is our turn to help save their lives.
