The Black Women Lawyers' Association Scholarship Fund is a 501(c)(3) organization, and, as the charitable arm of The Black Women Lawyers' Association of Greater Chicago, Inc., is dedicated to strengthening the pipeline of minority attorneys in the legal profession. Since its inception in 1987, through the generosity and support of sponsors, donors, and others, BWLA has awarded over $1,000,000 in scholarships to diverse college and law students, including over $40,000 last year.

During the 2025-2026 bar year, the BWLA Scholarship Fund plans to provide more scholarships to additional aspiring attorneys. Already, the Scholarship Fund has awarded:

The Law School Mentor Scholarship – $250 and mentorship to an aspiring law student to support their academic goals; and
2025 Fall Book Awards - $11,000 in book scholarships to 11 law students who demonstrate a commitment to furthering diversity at their schools and in the legal profession.

Moreover, this winter and spring, the Scholarship Fund intends to launch the following scholarships:

Agnes McGirth Scholarship - One $1,000 award for a law student who exemplifies tenacity and zeal for service and education while raising a family;
Bar Review Scholarships - Three awards covering the cost of a bar review course (valued at $1,500) to law students pursuing government or public interest careers; and
Spring Essay Scholarships - Multiple awards ranging from $2,500 - $30,000, contingent on an essay opining on a topical legal issue and a panel interview.
