Now imagine that, somehow, that dog never found you. What would their life have been like?

Presumably, you weren’t directly involved in their existence — but think of the luck, the timing, the threads of fate that had to weave together for you to meet. What if that never happened?

Every year in Chicagoland, over 10,000 dogs enter shelters and rescues. The terrible truth is that many of these dogs will never make it to the happily-ever-after they deserve. These dogs are someone’s soul dog — but they may never have the chance to experience the love that should be their birthright.

They may never find their person.
And their person will never know that they’re missing out on a life-changing bond — a piece of their soul waiting out there to be found.

It’s not their fault they ended up in a shelter. More often than not, it’s the fault of a careless individual who decided to breed for profit, or someone unable to access affordable spay or neuter services. The result? Unwanted and unneeded litters — more and more dogs every day who may never find their person, simply because there aren’t enough resources, enough support, or enough time to ensure they’re all cared for.

Rescues like Chicago Rescue Authority exist not only to clean up the messes created by irresponsible breeding operations, but to build those once-in-a-lifetime soul bonds between people and their heart dogs.

In our first year of operation, we:

Rescued 96 dogs from overcrowded shelters, neglectful breeding operations, and families who could no longer provide for them.
Spent over $60,000 on medical care, including spay and neuter surgeries to help stop the breeding cycle.
Achieved a 97% adoption success rate — one of the highest in our region.

So far, in 2025, we have:

Rescued over 200 dogs from overcrowded shelters, neglectful breeding operations, and families who could no longer provide for them.
Adopted out 151 dogs, with a continued adoption success rate of 99%

But this year, the need is greater than ever. Shelters across Chicago are at capacity, and dogs are being euthanized simply because there’s nowhere else for them to go. We've increased our impact as much as we were financially able to this year, but there is still so much more work to be done.

The current economic and social climate has led to even more dogs being surrendered — families facing deportation, job loss, or rising costs can no longer afford to care for their pets.

💛 $50 funds a round of vaccinations for a rescue dog or a pet in need.

💛 $100 covers parvo treatment for a sick puppy.
💛 $200 funds a spay or neuter surgery for a dog in our care — or for a community member’s pet.
💛 $500 covers a dental cleaning (with extractions) for a senior dog in need.
💛 $1,000 supports the mental health and well-being of our rescue directors, who carry the emotional and financial weight of our mission every single day.

Every dollar you give goes directly toward rescue, vet care, and adoption support. As of today, our entire team is 100% volunteer, which means every cent of your donation funds hands-on animal care.
