I am writing to you from Kirkmont, with a view of Goodrich Lodge and the pines behind it. From here it looks like it always has, but the roof is failing, and we need help replacing it.

This year we put a new floor into Goodrich. It was overdue and it turned out beautifully. It sits under a roof that has reached the end of its life.

We did not come to that conclusion quickly. We tried the affordable repair first. The main roof was silver coated and caulked, work that was paid for by people who care about this place. It kept leaking. Water does not wait, and every season we delay, the number goes up. The full replacement is $85,000.

I want to tell you what the building still does, because it would be easy to think of this as an old lodge and a large bill.

This summer, Goodrich hosted over 500 summer campers, volunteers, and guests, along with church and family gatherings. We closed the season with a program run with the Logan County Land Trust that brought in ODNR, Logan County Soil & Water, Trout Unlimited, and U.S. Fish & Wildlife onto the property in a single week. Agencies like that don't put their people on ground they don't take seriously.

And then campers went back to their home and stood in front of their own congregations to say how they’ve had the best summer of their lives. One of them said they wouldn't be who they are without this place.

That is a sixty-year-old building still doing its job.

We are not starting from zero. Over $5,000 is already in hand and set aside for the roof, given by people who know this place well and thought it was worth it.
