We Rise By Lifting Others www.Gracevilla.Org

Grace Villa is a safe place

where orphaned and vulnerable children find the love of family.

The babies and children in our care are brought by our district police, probation office, or court… rescued from abandonment, neglect, child headed households, abuse, early marriages, the street, and more. We provide all they need to grow up healthy and happy, give them the best possible start in life, and raise confident, compassionate, intelligent ladies.

Besides our 215 Grace Villa children, ALL girls in the community have access to our safe space even just for the day. They come through our gate for support, something to eat, fun activities like sports and spelling bees, to join our clubs like chess, book, dance or debate, to find computers with internet, help with school work, mentoring and counseling, fellowship, and a gender-responsive social protection system.

One of their favorite hang-out spots is our book library. A warm lovely space filled with a wonderful collection of books given to us by people from all over the world.

Children from the community come here to read, do homework, and have academic discussions. Equipped with a blackboard, this is also where we hold mentoring sessions, workshops and special classes like film, and was our home church during the covid lockdown.

Sadly, recent heavy rain destroyed part of our library roof, exposing it to significant water damage. Precious books, furniture and equipment were destroyed and the room is now moldy, unsafe and empty as we moved everything out. See story below.

MOSES RUTAHIGWA

Imagine our JOY when we received word that Moses Rutahigwa has chosen to run the Comrades Marathon for our children! His goal is to run this grueling 90km marathon from Pietermaritzburg to Durban to raise funds to support our efforts to restore our library. Please cheer him on, and join hands with him and all others who are fundraising for our children. Their voices join mine to say Thank you!

BOOKS FROM CLASSICAL CHRISTIAN HOMESCHOOL COMMUNITY!

Here’s another beautiful story. When 7 year old Elijah and 9 year old Daniella heard about what happened to our library, they decided to do something about it. With the help of their parents Rachel & Gilbert Matembe, they started a book drive and shared it with their friends in their homeschooling Community. The response was beautiful, with the children selecting their favorite books for our children. Within a few days they had collected lots of fantastic books, found a kind friend who was traveling to Kabale (Maaike), and a few weeks later the books were in the gleeful hands of our children in the hills of Kabale ♥️.

Help Rebuild the Grace Villa Children’s Library

Please support our fundraising drive to rebuild a library that was destroyed by rain storms, at Grace Villa - the only home and a safe space for at-risk girls in the hills of Kabale, Uganda.
