Griffith J Davis Photographs and Archives

Griffith "Griff" Jerome Davis (1923–1993) was an internationally acclaimed pioneer photographer, journalist, and Senior U.S. Foreign Service Officer. Born on April 18, 1923, he grew up on the campuses of Morehouse and Spelman Colleges, developing a passion for photography under teacher William H. Brown. Davis served as the official World War II photographer for the 92d Infantry Division and later became Ebony Magazine's first Roving Editor.

His extensive career covered Africa, Europe, and the United States, influencing policy with his photographic and writing skills. Transitioning to the U.S. Foreign Service in 1952, he documented and influenced the development policies of numerous African countries.
