What is Women Build?

Women Build is a month-long event, that invites women to help families build strength, stability and independence through housing. Our Women Build volunteers work under the guidance of construction professionals, and alongside other volunteers and future Habitat homeowners. Whether you are learning new skills or simply adding a few to your tool belt, this is a rewarding experience for all involved and improves the community that you share.

Women Build is also a terrific way to involve your friends and family in crucial work with a lasting impact. women helping women sends a positive and powerful message.

Why is it important?

Achieving housing stability is far more difficult for women to realize than for men in similar situations. Here are just three reasons why:

Men earn more on average than women, resulting in access to higher credit, better loans, and better-quality homes and neighborhoods.
Caregiving responsibilities often limit a women's ability to dedicate the necessary time to obtaining and maintaining consistent employment and decent housing.
Single women are denied mortgages at higher rates than single men despite the fact women are more reliable at paying back mortgages.

How does it work?

Women Build is an event where teams of 10 women come together to help build homes for other women. The event provides the opportunity to take a proactive step in serving our community in a tangible way. It is a terrific way to involve your friends and family in crucial work with lasting impact in a collaborative and friendly environment.

Each Women Builder commits to:

Building with her team for one full day of the event.
Raising at least $350 for corporate teams and $250 for peer-to-peer teams
