ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Magpie Vocal Improvisation Ensemble
Magpie is a collaboration of four dynamic singers who create music spontaneously, without a score, chart, or director. Comprised of Marta Aarli, Celeste Niehaus, Tom Weiser, and Roy Willey, the ensemble’s strength lies in its ability to open to the unknown and transform the immediacy of the moment into compelling, relatable music. Every piece Magpie sings is improvised in the moment, never sung before, never to be sung again.

Ray & El
Jazz and classical guitarist Ray Nunez and vocalist Ellen Laverdure join forces as Ray & El. Together, they breathe new life into classic jazz, pop, and blues standards. Through spontaneous improvisation and inventive arrangements, the duo transforms beloved songs into fresh, captivating performances that honor tradition while embracing the unexpected.

Patty Jackson
Patty Jackson is a multi-instrumentalist singer-songwriter. She plays in several local bands, and leads the fabulous group of ukulele women called Joyful Ruckus. A perfect day for her is paddling her kayak down a river with pals, singing goofy songs.

Three Together
Three-part harmonies ring true when Rex Loker, Paul Dart, and Cameron Weise sing folk and singer-songwriter favorites along with tunes you may not have heard before. Purposefully selected songs and fresh arrangements will pique your imagination, warm your soul and inspire your spirit. On this special evening, Jen Wyler will guest with them. Together, they will create the magic that happens when music and moment meet.

ABOUT THE CONCERT'S SPONSOR & HOST
Boulder Valley Unitarian Universalist Fellowship is a vibrant, active congregation of about 275 folks of all ages, located physically in Lafayette, Colorado, with an online presence available worldwide. As a congregation, our mission is to use freedom, reason, and respect to uplift the human spirit, nurture the intellect, and enhance the common good. To bring our vision to life, we transform lives, transform the world, and build community. We strive to be a center for spiritual exploration and justice making, which we sometimes shorten to two phrases: Inner Depth and Outer Focus.

We have no shared creed, but rather are a covenantal congregation, based on our shared values. Rather than being told what to believe, we support a “free and responsible search for truth and meaning.” Though our faith has liberal Christian roots, this responsible search has led us to an inclusive spirituality, in which we draw from everything from scriptural wisdom to personal experience to modern-day heroes.

We are united in our broad and inclusive outlook, and in our values. We are united in shared experience: our open and stirring services, religious exploration, and rites of passage; our work for social justice; our quest to include the marginalized; our expressions of love.
