Become a Friend of Central West Virginia HEART, Inc.

1. You keep the rooms open, and the rooms are free.

Central West Virginia HEART, Inc. runs HeartHouse as a hub for learning and collaboration.

During our time serving the community, we have welcomed our collaborative members the Arts

Council of Weston, the recovery network CoRRN, and the Lewis County Senior Citizens Center.

We have welcomed book groups, Bible studies, economic development groups, and educational

institutions such as Pierpont Community and Technical College. Your gift as a Friend keeps

utilities running and our doors open for neighbors.

2. Your dollars support community outreach.

To meet our mission we promote community engagement. In June 2025, national AmeriCorps

funding ended without warning. We funded a fellow to continue that work for another ten weeks.

When the July 2026 floods hit Lewis and Upshur counties, we collected clean-up supplies,

cooked pancake breakfasts, and funded and staffed the Phase 2 Rebuilding Lives Distribution

Center. When the Lewis County Senior Center asked for weekly space to connect with

neighbors, we opened our doors and said, "Come on in."

3. Your gift goes to programming and operations, and your whole gift is

deductible.

Yes, HeartHouse is a building, and your funding helps maintain the building. But you will not be

paying money toward rent or retiring a mortgage. You are buying special programming

developed with Central West Virginia families in mind. When you invest in HeartHouse, you are

paying for program instructors, film rights, supplies, and a well-managed operations budget.

When you join us as a Friend you receive nothing of market value in return. Your entire

contribution is tax deductible as allowed by law.

4. You get asked what you think.

Friends are not a mailing list. You are the small group we consult before we commit, because

the people closest to Weston usually know first what Weston needs. You will get a short annual

survey. You will be asked which programs to grow. When we launch a new program, you will be

the first to hear about it.

5. You find out exactly what your money did.

Before we ever ask you for a second gift, you will get a report naming where your first one

landed. Not the mission in general. Our annual report will track money coming in to operations

and to specific programs, each representing a specific letter of HEART: Health, Engagement,

Arts, Recollect’n, Training. You should be able to see where your money is going.

Where Your Donation Fits

Your annual gift of $50 to $4,999 funds the work happening right now, including our community

outreach, our program planning, and our facility management. Consider a Friend’s gift a

scholarship for your neighbors. Your contribution is why a class is free, or reduced in cost, for

any registered participant.

What You Receive When You Donate at the Friends Level

• A copy of The Story of a House and What It Became, our booklet on the 1884 building and

how it turned into HeartHouse, mailed to you with a personal thank-you for gifts of $100 or

more.

• A place on the annual Friends roll, or your privacy if you prefer it.

• First notice of special film nights, readings, and workshops.

• An invitation to walk the building with us, learn its history, and discuss how HeartHouse can

serve you.

• An annual report, delivered electronically, telling you how your money has been used.

• A voice. As a Friend, you get asked what Weston needs next. We value your input and your

vision.

The Friends donation tier is one of three levels of giving. You may choose to be a Friend but join

with others to offer more. Gather a few neighbors together and become identified as a Founding

Patron or a Founding Visionary. These levels of giving enable Central West Virginia HEART,

Inc. to maintain operations on a firm foundation.

Patrons give from $5,000 to $24,999. Visionaries give $25,000 or more and can lend their

names to a room or a capital campaign.

Contact us to establish a special giving circle. Right now, we have welcomed the Class of 1976

who, following their 50th high school reunion, stepped up to support a Tuesday night for

community learning.
