We are saddened to share with you that our 2023 Heart of Jesus Award recipient, Bruce Howe, passed away last Thursday. Here is a link to his obituary.

Bruce's family requested that we continue with our event honoring Bruce this Friday, April 21. The family will be in attendance as we recognize Bruce's outstanding contribution to the mission of SPIRITUS/Mount Tabor Center over the years.

The twofold mission of SPIRITUS is to inspire thousands of young Catholics and form young adults as lifelong missionary disciples and leaders for the Church.

Bruce became involved with the Mount Tabor Center in 2004. During this time, he served on the Board of Directors (including acting as Chairman of the Board), participated in the Development Committee, and gained the affectionate title of "Master Evangelizer" thanks to his gift of inviting others to support the mission of SPIRITUS. 

Those who knew Bruce called him "a pillar of our community" and shared that “Bruce is a man of faith and he lives it in all aspects of his life.”

Bruce was a major influencer in starting SPIRITUS in 2009, and 14 years later, he said "starting SPIRITUS was the right thing to do."

Bruce's commitment and advocacy contributed significantly to inspiring young Catholics and forming leaders for the Church.

Because of Bruce and other faith-filled supporters, since 2009, SPIRITUS:

• Inspired over 70,000 students
• Provided 2,003 dynamic retreats
• Formed over 130 young adult missionaries
• Helped 28 missionaries pursue priesthood or religious life
• Equipped 82 missionaries to work in various ministries throughout Wisconsin and the US

"All the feedback after retreats shows that SPIRITUS is reaching and helping them. The youth relate to the missionaries and leave feeling closer to God and with hope for the future," said Bruce.
