My legacy story centers my matriarchal inheritance. When I think of this year’s theme, The Legacy Table, I think of the women whose love and Motherwork fed my soul long before I knew what that type of nourishment truly meant for a Black girl growing up in the deep south. My mother is a survivor of both significant trauma and of a healthcare system that didn't and still doesn't get things quite right when it comes to Black women. During my childhood, when my mother became disabled and needed support navigating life challenges, my aunts and grandmother stepped in to help raise me with love, steadiness, and care. My life, which could have been severely fractured, became fortified by kinship. They set wisdom before me by the way they lived their lives, loved me from the root to the bone, and taught me how to endure with grace.
My village showed me early what truly matters, and it is the heart behind my work today. As a social worker in the mental health field, I have the opportunity to create what was missing for my mother and myself. It is why I’m honored to get to build spaces like Mom Circles with 3D Girls Inc, where mothers and their holistic wellbeing are centered through community support. When a mother is supported, the entire family feels the impact.
By supporting 3D Girls Inc's Her Legacy Tea fundraidser event, you are helping 3D Girls Inc. continue our work of honoring and bolstering these legacies by creating spaces for healing, connection, and possibility across generations.
