Twenty-five years ago, I tagged along with friend to check out a volunteer opportunity in a DC public school. Who knew that simple act would change my career and my life. After five years as a volunteer mentor, one of my scholars (Ariel) was accepted to his top-choice high school and I witnessed the tangible power of this program. That moment led me to switch my career to come work for Higher Achievement full-time. That was 20 years ago! Fast forward to today, I am proud to be godmother to Ariel's amazing daughter, Amber. She and my son, Pete, are good friends and growing up together.

Higher Achievement makes a measurable difference in the lives of 500+ middle school scholars across Baltimore MD, Prince Georges County MD, Washington DC, and Richmond VA every year. Long-term we know that our scholars are 3x more likely to graduate from a four-year college than their peers. We also have significant, positive third-party randomized controlled trial results. Our beloved organization has a milestone birthday this year - 50!! To celebrate, we are laying the groundwork for the next 50 years. Our campaign will fund continued growth and innovation, and will also build an endowment - for financial independence, which is critically important in today's climate.
