At Between Horses and Humans, we see the magic of horses transform lives every day. It’s not just about riding or learning to care for an animal; it’s about the connection, trust, and growth that happens when a child pairs with one of our incredible horses.

Here is the story ofhow Between Horses and Humans helped Marie and her mother Deanna.

Another story, is Emily, a young girl who came to us struggling with anxiety and fear of failure. School had become overwhelming, and she found it hard to trust others or believe in herself. But then, Emily met Lisette, our gentle Friesian mare.

On their first day together, Emily was nervous, unsure of how to interact with such a large and powerful animal. But Lisette, with her kind eyes and calming presence, stood patiently, allowing Emily to take her time. Over the next few weeks, Emily learned to groom and care for Lisette, and gradually, their bond grew. Emily's confidence began to bloom, and she started to feel the strength inside herself.

With every lesson, Emily not only learned horsemanship but also life skills that began to transform her outlook. She learned patience, resilience, and the power of calm communication—skills that have helped her overcome obstacles both in and out of the barn. Today, Emily is thriving, and Lisette remains her trusted partner in her journey of growth.

Emily’s story is just one of many. Our horses—Lisette, Rascal, Tru, Afka, and Mari—are more than just animals. They are healers, friends, and teachers. They work tirelessly every day to bring hope, joy, and healing to the children in our program.

But keeping our horses healthy and happy takes a village. It costs more than $6,000 a year to maintain the health, wellness, and safety of each horse. That’s why we need your support.
