Restoring Hope While “Chewing With a Purpose”

One plate. One person. One community showing up for another.

On October 3, 2026, House of HUGS for Women & Children will bring our community together for Feeding1000—our annual outreach initiative providing 1,000 hot meals throughout Greenville and Kinston.

Meals are delivered to shelters, soup kitchens, recovery homes, detox and rehabilitation programs, and other community organizations. For many of the people receiving a plate, it may be the only warm meal they have that day.

But Feeding1000 has always been about more than a meal.

Every plate purchased helps us feed someone in need while raising funds to support the continued mission and programs of House of HUGS. That's why we call it “Chewing With a Purpose.”

HERE'S HOW IT WORKS

$10 = 1 Hot Meal

Buy one plate. Buy five. Buy twenty. Every plate purchased provides a hot meal for someone in our community while helping House of HUGS continue the work we do throughout the year.

MORE THAN A MEAL

During Feeding1000, I encountered Marie, someone I had known since grade school. Her clothes appeared soiled, and initially she dropped her head, avoiding eye contact. I immediately stopped what I was doing and went to her.

We embraced, and no words were needed because she knew I personally understood her journey.

As we stepped back, tears filled her eyes as she quietly said:

“Thank you. This means a lot.”

Fighting back my own tears, I smiled, handed her a plate and replied:

“You're most welcome. It's all love.”

That plate was paid for by somebody she will never meet.

Behind every plate is a person. And every plate carries a quiet message:

Somebody sees you. Somebody cares. You have not been forgotten.
