Setsubun (節分) is a Japanese festival that helps usher in Spring. Often people will throw Mamemaki (豆まき) at people dressed as an oni (demon), while saying “Oni wa Soto, Fuku wa Uchi!” (鬼は外、福は内！) or "Demons out, fortune in!”; or through the house to ward off evil spirits that bring disaster, misfortune and bad health. Some people will eat the same number of roasted beans as their age, to help bring good health.

Ehomaki is a long type of sushi roll usually made with seven lucky ingredients, representing the seven gods of good fortune. The Ehomaki is usually eaten in one go, in silence, while facing the lucky direction for the year.
