Hearts for the Congo needs your help to provide food, blankets and mattresses to internally displaced people in the northeastern region of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Recently M23 rebels have taken the town of Goma and now they have taken the cities of Bukavu and Uvira which has made more people flee for safety. Violence has now spread to the northern Province of Ituri, where Bunia is the capital. Rev. Bisoke of the Peace Center in Bunia reported that on February 12, 52 women and children were killed in Djugu territory, 44 miles north of Bunia. Twenty-eight of those killed were children, some murdered in the schools, others burned in homes in the villages. CODECO, a militant group against M23, and claiming to protect the Lendu farmers, have taken responsibility for this attack. Eastern DRC is the most mineral rich area in the world. Vying for these resources and lifelong hatred and violence between tribes has consumed both leadership and militants.

As a result of this violence, people are fleeing their homes and looking for a safe place. Rev. Bisoke welcomes refugees to the Peace Center, but as you can imagine, already stretched resources are stretched even further. Hearts for the Congo provides $500 per month for food, but in these uncertain times this is not enough. We are asking for your help in raising this modest amount of $1500 to provide supplemental food, blankets and mattresses for these people seeking refuge. Thank you in advance!
